Skin tags are soft, skin-coloured growths on the skin . They are very common and are usually small and harmless. Skin tag removal is a popular procedure to resolve the issue.
Here at The Nurse Clinic we provide cryotherapy fir skin tag removal to Adults and Older Children. Cryotherapy involves applying liquid nitrogen to the skin to destroy the lesion. Over the next few days following your cryotherapy treatment, a scab will form over your skin lesion. This will typically take between one to two weeks to fall off, but it can take longer.
All procedures are performed by Donna Dady (RGN, BSc, INP) Donna Dady is not a Dermatologist, she is an Advanced Nurse Specialist with 25 years experience in GP practice who has attended numerous courses to increase her skills in many areas. Dermatology is one of those areas. If any abnormal lesions are identified during your consultation you will be required to contact your GP for referral to the hospital however a letter to your GP will be written urgently to inform your GP of the findings.
Causes of skin tags
The cause of skin tags is not always known, but they are sometimes caused by skin rubbing against skin.
Anyone can get skin tags and they cannot be prevented, but you may be more likely to get them if:
- you’re living with obesity or have skin folds that rub together
- you have type 2 diabetes, because severe insulin resistance is thought to cause more skin tags to grow
- you’re pregnant, as hormonal changes are thought to cause skin tag growth
