Skin Lesion Assessment
What is Dermoscopy?
Frequently asked questions
Dermatoscopy refers to the examination of the skin using skin surface microscopy to examine pigmented skin lesions, structures and patterns.
The decision is then made if the lesion is safe to remove without further investigation.
During Dermoscopy, a number of factors are being considered and observed. These all help build the picture alongside the clinical history that was completed by you during your consent form completion.
This is all used to finally decide if a lesion is safe to be removed or treated at THE NURSE CLINIC.
Should there be any chance that the lesion may look sinister or be out of the clinical competence that Donna Dady is happy to work within, or need further investigation, you will be advised of this and given your options of how to progress. This may be either via your GP or private consultant.
Advanced Nurse Specialist, Donna Dady, is qualified in Minor Surgery, Cryotherapy and is an Independent Nurse Prescriber. She is also recognised by the Royal College of Nursing as an Advanced Level Practice Nurse.
The Nurse Clinic do not routinely send any lesions to the laboratory for histology. Dermoscopy is performed prior to removal to risk assess and confirm that the lesion is benign.
Dermoscopy can identify if lesions have sinister features. Options on how to proceed either via GP or Private Consultant will be given.
More details on her full skill set can be found in the MEET THE TEAM page of the website. She has extensive experience in GP Practice with Dermatology conditions and also has trained in Minor Surgery, Cryotherapy and Dermoscopy.
