Coil Removal
What is a coil?

The contraceptive coil is a T shaped device that is fitted into the uterus via the vagina to stop pregnancy. There are 2 types of coil, a hormonal coil and a non hormonal coil. There work in different ways to stop pregnancy.
How does the Hormonal coil work?
A hormonal coil (also known an Intrauterine System or IUS) causes cervical mucus to thicken which stops sperm accessing the egg, it also inhibits or stops ovulation so there is no egg to fertilize.
How does the copper coil work?
The copper coil (also known as the IUD) stops pregnancy by causing the uterine environment to become toxic to sperm. It thins the womb lining and this in turn makes it harder for fertilization and implantation of an egg to occur
